A Young Person Questions Her Drinking Classmates To Get More Information About Alcohol Addiction And Alcohol Abuse
Heather drank quite frequently with her drinking buddies. One Monday after all her classes were completed, she started reflecting on the amount of alcohol she had on a regular basis and the abusive and excessive drinking of her friends. As a result of this, she politely asked all of her drinking buddies the following question: "what do we really know about binge drinking, alcohol poisoning, alcoholism, and alcohol abuse? Stated more explicitly, how much alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse information do we truly know? For our age, we certainly drink a lot and I am really beginning to wonder if all of us are headed for a life filled with alcohol-associated problems in the not so distant future.
I believe we should go online and learn all that we can about alcohol abuse, alcohol poisoning, alcoholism, and binge drinking. And then if we have any issues that we cannot understand after we do our online research, we can schedule an appointment at the student health center at the college and ask Nurse Sesny to help us understand what we do not know.
It should not come as a big shock that what Heather said would lead to a heated discussion. For example, her best friend since the ninth grade, Lisa, stated that they are too healthy and too young to be worried about hazardous and careless drinking. Another drinking pal named Isaac reasoned that since most teenagers drink there is no commonsensical reason why they should be any different. Another friend named Keira stated that all she wants to do is to have fun drinking with her friends. And still another classmate named Luca in fact agreed with Heather mainly because his parents were both alcohol abusers and both of his parents had a history of alcohol related problems.
Heather openly told her buddies that she understood everything that they had said but that engaging in careless and irresponsible drinking at such a susceptible age in truth cannot be very healthy or something that contributes toward establishing a meaningful life. When a couple of her friends asked what kind of alcohol problems Heather was referring to, Heather articulated the following: alcohol-related problems like alcohol poisoning (which can be fatal in some instances), alcohol-related traffic accidents and fatalities, and alcoholism and alcohol-related diseases such as heart disease, cirrhosis of the liver, and cancer.
When Heather then mentioned that abusive and careless drinking regularly results in financial, relationship, school, and legal problems, some of her buddies finally started to understand how extensive and how debilitating abusive and careless drinking can be. Without a doubt some of her friends became more open and started to disclose how these alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse effects had adversely affected their parents and some of their friends.
After outlining some of the alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse problems that are related to careless drinking, the majority of her drinking friends seemed to agree to the idea about getting information on the web. They were, however, apprehensive about discussing their drinking circumstances with the administrators at school. As Heather reflected on this she whispered to herself, "at least they are somewhat excited about leaning more about their hazardous drinking. This is an excellent start."
