A Young Woman Overcomes Her Depression, Gets Alcohol Treatment For Her Excessive And Irresponsible Drinking, And Boosts Her Self Esteem
Emily was a twenty-eight-year-old accounts payable manager who was tired of feeling depressed everyday and fed up with her careless and excessive drinking behavior. Simply put, she was sick of feeling tired every morning, she was angry with herself for spending her hard-earned money on a valueless habit, she was tired of going through failed relationship after failed relationship because of her irresponsible drinking, she missed her old drive for doing various things she enjoyed, and she hated the hangovers she went through on a regular basis.
Above and beyond the obvious alcohol-related health difficulties she was going through, almost certainly the most regretful part of her drinking routine was the undependable and dishonest person she had turned into. In her heart she realized that she had been untruthful about her drinking activities with relatives, family, and friends and she also knew she had been less than truthful with herself about the "healthy" effects of drinking. Not only this but she made excuses for wolfing down three or four alcoholic beverages before going to social activities and she also rationalized needing four or five drinks as soon as she got up so that she could cope with the "tension" at work. Simply put, Emily got to a critical time in her life when she finally understood that she hit the bottom of the barrel in her life and was now prepared to begin the gradual road that leads to health.
One of the ways that Emily put her "plan" into action was by requesting a transfer at her workplace. When her request was approved by top management, she moved 800 miles away to a different part of the U.S. If nothing else, this unquestionably made making new pals and disconnecting herself from her old friends easier. Then she visited with a healthcare professional in her new location city and scheduled an appointment for a complete psychological and physical examination.
After meeting with the healthcare practitioner and going through numerous lab tests, it was determined that Emily had made the regrettable transition from alcohol abuse to dependency on alcohol and therefore, needed alcohol detox and alcohol rehabilitation. At this difficult time, the healthcare professional made it a point to go over the various alcoholic symptoms and the familiar symptoms of alcoholism. In addition to taking a lot of time focusing on Emily's alcoholism symptoms, her doctor also told Emily that her psychological assessment revealed that she was clinically depressed and in need of treatment for this medical situation.
Due to her willingness to follow through with the treatment regimen, after twelve weeks of residential treatment, Emily was ready to initiate rehabilitation on an outpatient basis. At this time, she began working at her new job and over the weeks began fortifying her body by living an alcohol-free lifestyle, drinking spring water, eating nutritious foods, exercising, and taking vitamins.
After just about twelve weeks of outpatient therapy during which time she never suffered through a relapse, Emily stopped going to alcohol counseling and instead started going three times every week to local AA meetings. Attending these meetings helped Emily continue her alcohol-free way of life, they gave her the support she required, and they served as an unceasing reminder of the negative consequences that are correlated with hazardous and careless drinking. Compared with her life less than a year ago, life was now meaningful and full of potential that she could have never wished for or attained while she was involved in abusive drinking behavior.
