I'm not catholicism-based, but I know many people who follow the rules of this religious conviction very carefully. I admire their dedication, and I think they're wonderful people because of it. There are many things in life that are magnificent in abstract theory, but aren't so great in practice. Though a catholic wedding seems to cover what the faith means to those who attend, I have to say it is lacking a bit. Though who follow this belief are acclimated to the length of the wedding-ceremony and the christian wedding songs, but for someone like me, this is something of a shock. One of my closest friends asked me to be in her catholicism-based wedding, & I had no concept what I was getting in to when I agreed. I enjoyed the christian wedding songs, but it was lengthy!
The ceremony itself isn't bad, it's the length of it. It seemed to me that everyone was traveling in slow motion, & that did not help. A catholic wedding day is a long affair, but that could not be the case if everyone would just move a bit faster. You can get things done with-out appearing hurried if you put your brain to it, but it seemed that everybody who was involved in her catholicism-based wedding wanted to take their time, including the people that sang the christian wedding songs.
The length of the ceremony was a little bit much for me, and the key factor was my choice of shoe. I had to have some-thing with a heel, but I had no idea that I would have to stand in them for an hour. By the time we were halfway done with the catholic wedding wedding-ceremony, I thought my feet were going to break off. They hurt like crazy, and my dress wasn't long enough for me to slip them off for a little comfort. I noticed many of the other girls in the wedding were shifting around awkwardly, and when there were minutes when we could sit, one could hear an audible sigh of relief from most of the wedding day party.
Over all, though, the catholic wedding was beautiful, and I am happy that my friend & her brand-new husband had the wedding they wanted, & that everything went smoothly. My biggest problem was that I didn't know what to expect, and that should have been some-thing that I asked as the arrangements were being made. She was very aware that we might be uncomfortable, but she was so stressed out that she mentioned this to us much too late. That's okay though, I would do anything for her. I will think twice if someone else asks me to be a part of a catholic wedding day again though.
