Luckily, the wedding planner with my own sister, but regrettably, low priced meant very, very cheap. I was half tempted, to tell you the truth, to wait another year or two til I was on more secure fiscal footing, but it was very important to my bride-to-be to be married. We had decided that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, & she wanted to make it official.
My idea was to have the most low cost wedding we could by merely getting married in the eyes of the government. We did not need all the fancy ceremony and country wedding songs to be married! You get a wedding certificate, take a week-end trip, and have done with it. No massive dress, no guest list, no country wedding songs, no giant bills to pay. It would be a lot more fun than having a huge stressful occasion with all of our friends and family, and it would only cost a few hundred dollars. She wouldn't hear of it, however. She was willing to have low priced wedding decorations and a discount wedding gown, but one way or the other she was getting married traditionally - country wedding songs & all.
There's nothing more tedious than planning low-cost weddings. You see, there is not any miraculous cheap weddings trick. You have to simply save money & every-thing that you can. You have to find a way to get low priced wedding invitations, low priced wedding centerpieces, cheap bridesmaid gowns, & even a somehow cheap room to have the reception in. The last one is easy assuming that you know someone with space that they will let you use. In my situation, we were able to use my mother & dad back yard and save a lot of money on renting out a hall. Even so, every-thing else added up to quite a bit of money.
The hardest part was picking out wedding day bridal gowns with my wife. For most of the planning, she was willing to use wedding do it yourself tricks in order to save a little bit of money on occasion, but picking out her wedding day dress was an absolutely awful ordeal. In the end, we finally decided that that would be the one area of the wedding where she could spend as much cash as she needed to get what she wanted to wear. After all, there is no substituting for the perfect wedding day dress.
