The Negative Effects Of Unwarranted Work And Irresponsible And Abusive Drinking And The Inspiration For Alcohol Therapy
Work was becoming too hectic for a young police officer named Lonnie. Even though he had only been on the police force for four years, he was already very well known as a very hard worker who rarely declined working overtime. Actually, he was now working ten to fifteen hours of overtime each week and, as a consequence, he felt like he was losing his hold on his personal life. What complicated the situation was the fact that Lonnie started going out drinking with a group of fellow officers after his shift.
Obviously Lonnie was in a psychological and health-related rut and going through some adverse signs of alcoholism. Where Lonnie really noticed drinking related problems and alcoholism signs, however, was in his family life and in his marriage. His wife wasn't really a complainer, but she often asked him to stay at home more with her and with the kids instead of going out and wasting money while drinking with his buddies.
In his heart of hearts, it was clear to Lonnie that his irresponsible drinking was adversely affecting his work, health, relationship with his family, and his pocketbook. So one Monday morning Lonnie decided to talk to Richard, a trusted old police officer buddy that he greatly admired.
Lonnie told Richard how excessive and hazardous drinking was negatively affecting his pocketbook, relationship with his family, work, and his health. Richard mentioned to Lonnie that he understood totally because around five years ago, he too got involved in careless and excessive drinking. Indeed, Richard mentioned to Lonnie that excessive and hazardous drinking can create so many problems in a person's life that virtually everything of importance can be destroyed. And finally, Richard recommended that Lonnie make an appointment with an alcohol psychologist at the work-affiliated alcohol abuse center.
Since his employee's assistance program was affiliated with this rehab center, it was not only quite convenient but also very affordable to obtain treatment about his careless and excessive drinking. And due to the fact that the personnel at the drug and alcohol treatment center was supportive, non-judgmental, and competent, Lonnie would be able to get alcohol treatment that made sense to him and something he could follow through on.
After talking to his therapist about how his drinking was adversely affecting his work, health, relationship with his family, and his pocketbook, Lonnie realized that he was burning the candle at both ends with his excessive work hours and his careless drinking. Once he grasped the fact that he was digging himself into a rut, after detoxification and with the assistance of his psychiatrist, and after thirteen weeks in rehabilitation, he was eventually able to quit drinking and stop working overtime.
The result was that Lonnie saw life another way now that he was in alcohol recovery and took the time to learn more relevant alcoholism facts. To be more specific, due to his alcohol treatment he not only noticed that he actually had more money now even though he was working far fewer hours each week, but he was more patient when interacting with his wife and his children, he felt better and more healthy, and he had more quality time to spend with his family. As luck would have it, now that he stopped drinking, Lonnie and his wife were not only starting to save some money for a new house but he also felt more alert and more energized than anytime since he and his wife got married.
